Origin Story
The central highlands of Huehuetenango, Guatemala, are known for producing some of the finest coffees in Central America. Coffee can be cultivated up to 6,500 feet altitude. The high elevation and chalky soil results in a slow maturation process, infusing the coffee bean with more complex sugars that yield deeper, more varied flavors. Since being introduced to Guatemala in the 1700’s, coffee has been part of life, from being a bartering item for trade early on to becoming part of regular meals in modern day. For those living in Huehuetenango today, coffee is raising quality of life through programs designed to empower women (many of whom are heads of their households) and educate young adults about entrepreneurship and coffee farming.
