Tasting Notes

Exotic & mellow, orange blossom & brown sugar notes, soft finish.

Roastmaster's Notes

Huehuetenango is considered one of the best coffee growing regions in Guatemala, thanks to the dry, hot winds that sweep across the mountains from Mexico’s Tehuantepec plain, protecting the crops from frost. The region’s abundant rainfall with predictable dry season, and well-drained volcanic soil provide ideal growing conditions for the coffee plant. We roast our Luz de Vida to a Medium-Dark level, ensuring a rich and well-rounded flavor that balances the fruited and floral origin notes with a soft, sweet caramelization.

Food Pairings
The mellow flavor and soft mouthfeel of Luz de Vida complements a fruit tart, sliced apples dipped in caramel sauce, or a sweet cinnamon bun.

Best coffee and better customer service

I have been buying Chapín coffee for some time now. I LOVE all the different flavors, Luz de Vida is my favorite. But I have to say the customer service is above and beyond. My order was crossed with someone else’s order. I emailed them and received an immediate response. I had my order within a day. They’re incredible.

Origin Story

Huehuetenango, located in the highlands of western Guatemala, is considered one of the country’s best coffee growing regions thanks to the dry, hot winds that sweep across the mountains from Mexico’s Tehuantepec plain, protecting the crops from frost. Abundant rainfall with a predictable dry season, and well-drained volcanic soil provide ideal growing conditions for the coffee plant. Since the introduction of coffee to Guatemala in the 1700’s, coffee has not only become a part of daily meals for the natives of Huehuetenango, it has also been bartered for trade and given as a gift for special occasions. Today a renewed emphasis on fair trade coffee is raising standards of living in the region and supporting a growing segment of women-run farms.
