Origin Story

Sumatra, a large Indonesian island west of Java and south of the Malay Peninsula, is known for its rugged tropical terrain, wildlife, and smoldering volcanoes, all of which create ideal conditions for coffee production. Having first exported coffee to Europe in the 1700s, Indonesia today is the 4th largest coffee producer in the world. Most Sumatran coffee comes from small family-owned farms where traditional harvesting and drying methods are used. While coffee consumption in the country is increasing, in many communities, coffee farmers will gather for communal meals and share equipment throughout the production cycle. Our Sumatran beans produce a full-bodied cup with hints of creamy butterscotch and spice.
